Whilst it may have only just tipped into pumpkin season, you must get in early to pick the best tree you can for Christmas.
At North East Lincolnshire Council, that’s exactly what’s happened. Taking the spotlight in St. James’ Square is the 23ft Nordmann Fir grown locally by Strawson Woodland at their plantation near Louth.
This was made possible through a generous donation made by North East Lincolnshire Council’s waste management contractor, Newlincs Development Ltd.
Newlincs Development operate the energy from waste plant at Stallingborough and the community recycling centres in Grimsby and Immingham.
Alongside this tree, another will be placed outside the Community Recycling Centre (CRC) in Grimsby to get everyone in the festive spirit.
Operations director Sharon Hunt said: “At Newlincs we love Christmas and we’re thrilled to be donating a fabulous Christmas tree for Grimsby town centre this year.
“Our award-winning staff at the Grimsby and Immingham Community Recycling Centres will be pulling all the stops out again this year with their salvaged and upcycled tip decorations.
“Their efforts help raise thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes, we’re grateful to everyone who visits and donates.
“We hope we can help spread some Christmas cheer around Grimsby town centre this festive season with this wonderful tree. Merry Christmas everybody!”
Ultimately, the tree will play a starring role during the Great Grimsby Christmas Festival which will be held on Saturday, 28 November in Grimsby town centre.
The event will kick off at 12pm and the festivities run until 7pm with live entertainment, a Christmas market, delicious food and drink stalls as well as family friendly activities across multiple town centre locations.
The festival will round off with the much-anticipated Grimsby light parade and the Christmas tree light switch on in St James’ Square, signalling the start of Grimsby’s festive season.

Councillor Bob Callison, Portfolio Holder for Environment, Tourism and Culture, said: “We know how important Christmas is to residents in North East Lincolnshire and I’m thrilled to be partnering with local businesses to give the borough a worthy Christmas tree.”
He added: “I would also like to thank NewLincs for their generous donation to make this a reality. All that’s left for me to say is watch this space for more information on the wonderful Christmas event.”
