Come see the lights switch on, live music and much more at the Great Grimsby Christmas Festival for just £1.50 on the bus.
To help shoppers and everyone in between, the Council and Stagecoach are improving the £1.50 Leisure Scheme ticket over the Christmas period.
Starting from Saturday, 22 November, you’ll be able to get on the bus for less than the price of a sandwich after 6pm on a weekday and all day on a weekend.
So why not make the most of it and come see the Christmas lights switch on or get some early Christmas shopping done without having to worry about the cost of transport.
This year, the Great Grimsby Christmas Festival is set to be bigger and better than ever with a massive range of performers and traders to get you in the festive spirit.
Some of the highlights of this year’s festival include:
- The Main Stage at St James’ Square, sponsored by Keepmoat, will feature a packed programme of live music throughout the afternoon, spotlighting brilliant local talent including Spencer Booth, Palm Trees of Venice and Lola + The Cosmic Gateway. As a sponsor, Keepmoat continues their commitment to the community – creating places people love to call home.
- The Community Stage at Riverhead Square, sponsored by Orsted, showcasing festive favourites and carols with All For One Choir, Grimsby Symphony Orchestra, Back to Brass and more. Lauren Little, Senior Stakeholder Advisor from Ørsted said: “We’re so proud to be sponsoring the community stage again this year. The event brings a magic time for Grimsby to get together and enjoy the festivities. Our teams are looking forward to attending with our families.”
- Shop at the Merry Makers’ Market on both St James Square & Riverhead Square for handmade gifts, crafts, and seasonal goodies from brilliant local traders.
- Treat yourself to tasty food & drink options from authentic German sausages and Yorkshire pudding wraps to mulled wine and Baileys hot chocolate.
- Get a Festive Glow Up with Free Face Painting from JelliNelli
- Winter Wonderland opens at Freshney Place: Meet Santa and his elves along with his snow princesses, for a photo opportunity along with taking part in festive themed arts and crafts. To support the event, Freshney Place and its car parks will be opening until 7pm on the festival day.
- As part of the festive activities taking place in the town centre this Christmas, Freshney Place is proud to also host the Have A Heart Campaign – a heart-warming initiative inviting visitors to donate gifts for local children who might otherwise go without, running from Monday 10th November to Wednesday 17th December.
The scheme will run until the New Year when leisure tickets return to being available after 6pm every day.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, said: “I’m thrilled to be able to offer a discounted ticket during the Christmas period.
“We want to help people out where we can and this gives them a way to get around the borough without having to worry about fuel or parking.
“This is the perfect opportunity for people to get to the Christmas Festival too so make sure not to miss out on what is sure to be a great evening.”
Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, added: “At Stagecoach East Midlands, we’re delighted to once again be able to support the offering of the £1.50 off peak fare, available to all in the evenings and at weekends.
“With so much going on in the area over the festive period, it makes sense to beat the traffic and parking charges, and hop on one of our services, so we hope this brings people that little bit of extra joy in being able to afford an extra mince pie or two, thanks to the discounted tickets!”
