FRIGHTENING fondant and spooky sponge were just some of the tasty treats cooked-up by children at Nunsthorpe Family Hub last night.

The scrumptious treats were part of a Bake-Off event organised to mark the start of Corporate Parenting Fortnight, which puts the spotlight on children that are growing up in care.

On Monday night, children who are in foster care enjoyed a night of baking and creativity with a Halloween theme.

Among the delicious treats baked on the night was an apple pie with ghostly decorations, and chocolate cupcakes with marshmallow eyes!

Judges from North East Lincolnshire Council’s Children’s Services deliberated over some difficult decisions before crowning the winners of each category.

Speaking after the event, Councillor Margaret Cracknell, portfolio holder for children and education, said:

“I’ve loved looking through the photos from the evening. I know that the children had tremendous fun making a mess and being very creative in their cake designs.

“This marks the start of our Corporate Parenting Fortnight, and it’s a very important milestone in the calendar. As a Council, we are responsible for a number of local children who are growing up in our care, and as a community, we have a responsibility to support and nurture those children.

“I’d like to thank all those involved in organising this event and the events coming up over the next two weeks.”
