Plans are progressing for the major restoration of Corporation Road Bridge.

The tender period for the works has now closed and the process of reviewing the submissions is now underway.

A number of contractors have submitted bids to carry out the works and these are currently being reviewed. Following which the contract will be awarded in the coming weeks.

Work is expected to start late March 2022 and will take up to 18 months to complete.

Once appointed, details will be published on the contractor, start date for restoration works and information regarding any diversion routes while the bridge is closed.

The Corporation Bridge refurbishment is a £4.967m scheme – funded by £2.967m from the Department for Transport, £1.83m set aside by the Council and a further £170,000 from the Local Transport Fund.

Known for its stature and a visual symbol of the town’s roots, the bridge falls within Grimsby’s Heritage Action Zone. The zone covers a 2.5km stretch from 17-19 Wellowgate to the Kasbah and has been designated specially because it contains historic buildings and structures.

Engineers are working closely with Historic England and others to ensure the bridge will be fit for purpose and a benefit to North East Lincolnshire’s residents.

The council is working closely with Historic England to ensure the work conforms to its Listed Bridge requirements.
