From Street Cleansing to the Children’s Services, a group of 20 North East Lincolnshire Council colleagues are celebrating a total of over 650 years’ service between them.
The cohort have reached a range of milestones including 25, 30, 35, 40 and even 45 years. Whilst they haven’t always done the jobs they do today, all of them have thoroughly enjoyed their time with the Council.
In a special event to recognise their achievements, Chief Executive Rob Walsh and Leader of the Council Philip Jackson acknowledged their public service commitment to North East Lincolnshire.
Reaching an impressive 45 years were Gary Miller and Trevor Beckett. Gary is now a tractor driver for the Council, tending to a range of parks, verges and other open spaces.
Trevor currently works as a Senior Refuse Loader Driver, ensuring bins are collected throughout the borough.
Gary said: “I was a gardener originally when it was Humberside Council, but made the move to tractor driver, which is something I always wanted to do, even from being a little boy.
“Now, I spend my time cutting grass, strimming edging and anything grounds maintenance related.” Speaking about his favourite part of the job, Trevor said: “The job satisfaction is the best part for me, as well as working with some great people.
“I’m really happy here and can’t see myself leaving anytime soon.”
Collecting his certificate for 40 years’ service was Waste Team Leader Steve Fox. “It’s a privilege to have worked here for this amount of time. I started in 1984 as a street sweeper before being promoted to supervisor in 1996 and have really enjoyed my time here.”

Chris Pulford, Grounds Maintenance Operational Area Manager, has been with the Council for 35 years and agrees that it’s the people that make it all worth it. “My colleagues are the reason I’ve stayed so long.
“They are excellent people.” He added: “I’ve seen people come and go and the Council has changed 10 fold since I first started, but we’ve enjoyed good times over the three and a half decades I’ve been here.”
Celebrating 25 years was Financial Planning Accountant Maggie Rabjohns, who believes she’ll be here for the foreseeable future. “I think I will always be here. The Council have been really good to me and I’m very loyal to them for that.
“I never thought I would be here now from when I started at age 17 though, I certainly have a lot to be grateful for.”
Congratulating the cohort was Council Leader Philip Jackson. He said: “I think it’s fantastic that these people have been working so hard for the Council for such a long period of time.
They’ve made a fantastic contribution to the borough over those years. It shows the dedication of our staff and the attraction of the authority.
“They do fantastic work across a range of different departments in the Council. Some are front facing and others behind the scenes, but all are incredibly important.”
Chief Executive Rob Walsh said: “It’s great to see so many people receiving a long service award.
“All our colleagues work incredibly hard to keep the borough going and recognising their devotion with today’s presentation is the least they deserve.
“None of what we do would be possible without every single one of them and I’m proud to be a part of the family we have created here at North East Lincolnshire Council.”
