We are thrilled to announce that 23 applications have been received from education settings ranging from Early Years to post-16, for the Small Projects High Needs Capital Grant Fund. This initiative aims to enhance inclusion within mainstream education settings by making significant improvements to their spaces and support inclusion.
Through this funding, education settings could receive up to £10,000 to upgrade and adapt their environments to better support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
With the application period now closed, a dedicated panel comprising representatives from NELC Education and Inclusion Services, finance, assets, and school representatives will assess each application using a structured scoring approach.
A common theme among the applications is the creation of sensory spaces. These spaces offer numerous benefits, including helping children and young people who feel overwhelmed or anxious, providing stimulating or regulating equipment and toys, and supporting children and young people with sensory processing challenges.
Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio holder for Children and Education said: “This funding represents an exciting opportunity for our education settings to enhance their support for children and young people with SEND, fostering a more inclusive and supportive educational environment.
Jennifer Steel, Service Director for Education, Inclusion and Integration at North East Lincolnshire Council said:
“The response from our educational settings has been great. Education settings will have until the end of 2025 to complete their projects. By July 2026, we look forward to sharing the positive impact these improvements will have on children and young people with SEND.”
