North East Lincolnshire Council is advising road users of upcoming investigatory works on the A18 Barton Street, between Hatcliffe and Ashby Hill Roundabout, Grimsby.

The works involve core testing, which is carried out using a small drilling rig mounted to a vehicle. The equipment extracts controlled cylindrical samples from the road surface. These samples are then analysed to assess the existing road construction and ground load capacity, helping to inform the design of future highway improvement schemes.

The testing will take place from Wednesday 22 April to Friday 24 April 2026.

Works will be carried out during the day, under temporary traffic signal control, between 7:30am and 6pm.

Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum; however, some noise is unavoidable while drilling is in progress.

North East Lincolnshire Council and contractor Humberside Material Laboratory Ltd apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and thank road users for their patience. The works will be completed as quickly and safely as possible.
