General

Festival of the Sea’s 2025 programme has received support from Arts Council England to expand their activities, making the event a fantastic day out for families and people of all ages on Saturday 21st June.

The exciting programme now features extra activities, performances, guided walks, installations, and workshops for families and people of all ages, including:

  • Join Lucy’s Art Club & Turntable Gallery on a journey to the darkest corners of the ocean, to create a fearsome beast from the watery depths! This sculpture workshop for all will see you creating monstrous, clay creatures from beneath the waves.
  • Origami boat craft drop in workshops and a Trawler Trail: Grab a trail map and see if you can find all the mini sailboats hidden across the town centre.
  • Sensory space by TARGET NEL inclusive of soft ocean background music, projection of sea images and sensory toys.
  • The Cookery Tent is back! Returning for another year of cookery demonstrations, this year’s tent features exquisite dishes from Alfred Enderby and Andrea Wallace
  • After the success of Ocho the Octopus in 2024, Tim Davies Design returns to the festival with Iso, a beautiful undersea beast based on the ancient deep sea isopods. Iso is a striking animated large scale puppet for outdoor performance measuring over 7 metres long and 5 metres high – an awe-inspiring treat for children.
  • Book free tickets online for the Grimsby: Exploring the water connection tour at 11am or 1pm or the Grimsby Seafood Tour at 11am. Limited places available

In addition to the above activities, the funding allows Festival of the Sea to:

Hire a Young Music Promoter, Jay Roberts, to help curate the main stage music programme. This is an opportunity for Jay, a student at Grimsby Institute of Higher Education who wants to pursue a career in music and festivals industry to gain an amazing practical experience. He has made connections supporting the festival while delivering our joint vision of being inclusive for local artists and Grimsby’s grassroots music scene.

Offer paid opportunities for steering group volunteers, supporting them with training and development so they can help shape the future of the festival. This initiative ensures that local voices remain central to the planning and direction of Festival of the Sea. If you’re interested in joining in please apply via: Steering Group EOI – Festival of the Sea

Important Weather Notice:

A heatwave is forecast for Saturday 21st June. We want everyone to stay safe, cool, and well-hydrated while enjoying the festival. Please bring suncream, wear a hat, and dress in light, breathable clothing.

There will be Water Points available across the site where you can refill your bottles or purchase water from vendors. Please bring your own refillable bottle. Shaded areas and covered spaces will be available throughout the event site to help you stay cool.
