Bonmarché, one of Freshney Place’s valued tenants has signed a new lease, reaffirming its commitment to the centre and the wider community as the centre undergoes its redevelopment.
Women’s value fashion retailer Bonmarché operates from over 225 stores across the UK. They have an emphasis on rewarding customer loyalty and providing an enjoyable and easy shopping experience, investing in celebrity partnerships and collaborations that create excitement around their Collections. Most recently they have launched exciting new Christmas Collections with Lisa Snowdon and Lorraine Kelly. The brand continues to invest in the High Street and in strengthening it’s store portfolio across the UK.
Amanda Waterfield, Retail Director, and Sarah Wilkinson, Marketing Director at Bonmarché, commented: “We are delighted to reaffirm our commitment to Freshney Place and to continue serving our valued customers in Grimsby. Our Bonmarché store will remain open, offering fantastic quality and style at exceptional value for the local community.”
The renewal comes at a pivotal time for Freshney Place, which is currently in the midst of a £50 million-pound scheme that will see it evolve into a premier leisure and retail destination for the region. The ambitious redevelopment plan includes the addition of a new cinema, a reimagined market space, and a dedicated food court – all designed to bring a fresh, modern, and vibrant feel to the town centre.
With occupancy currently at an impressive 95%, Freshney Place continues to demonstrate strong appeal to both national and independent brands, despite the broader challenges facing high streets across the UK.
The decision by Bonmarché to recommit to the centre reinforce the confidence businesses have in the centre’s vision and future.
Elliott Andrews, centre manager commented: “We’re thrilled Bonmarché has recommitted to Freshney Place. Their continued presence highlights the strength of our offer and the belief our partners have in the future of the centre. Our transformation into a new retail and leisure hub is well underway, and it’s fantastic to see businesses investing in that journey alongside us.”
Jason Sargent, senior leasing manager at Queensberry Real Estate added: “We are continuing to see sustained interest and commitment from leading brands. Bonmarché’s lease renewal is testament to the opportunities emerging from our redevelopment and to the loyalty of our tenant community.”
The Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, Cllr Philip Jackson, said: “When the council took the bold decision to purchase Freshney Place, it was done to protect and grow our town centre and secure some 1,700 jobs – the vast majority of those being local. I am very pleased to say that since becoming owners, the council has seen the start of the major regeneration scheme, and developments such as the opening of the Community Diagnostic Centre, the retention of key retailers – including Bonmarché – and extremely positive talks about the future of new leisure units in the redevelopment area. This council is supporting its town centre for the benefit of everyone.”
