Highways

Sixhills Street, Robinson Street East and Bowling Green Lane in Grimsby are set to benefit from tactile paving and cycle lane improvements.

Tactile paving is designed to help pedestrians with visual impairments to navigate around public spaces safely. It is a textured ground surface also known as foot braille, which alerts people to directional changes or hazards by the use of a cane or foot.

The upcoming works will include removal of the existing traffic islands, and installation of new tactile paving and traffic islands.

These works will begin on Monday 10 November and are programmed to be completed by Friday 21 November 2025. To allow the works to be carried out safely they will be completed under the following traffic management:

Robinson Street East between Pasture Street and Eastgate

  • 24-hour full road closures between Pasture Street and Holme Street
  • Temporary 2-way traffic signals between Holme Street and Eastgate
  • Suspension of existing parking on Robinson Street East between Holme Street and Eastgate.

Bowling Green Lane between Pasture Street and Bowling Green Lane entrance to AG Cash & Carry

  • 24-hour full road closures between Pasture Street and Bowling Green Lane entrance to AG Cash & Carry.

Sixhills Street between Sheepfold Street and Willingham Street

  • Narrow traffic lane and 24-hour suspension of the cycle lane.

Vehicle access for residents and businesses within the closure area will be prohibited, but footpath access will be maintained at all times. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.

During the works, on street parking will be temporarily suspended. Please support the contractor by not parking vehicles on the carriageway or footway in the works location to ensure a safe working area can be maintained and to avoid delaying the works programme.

The council and contractor J McCann & Co Ltd would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience and assure you that the work will be completed as quickly and safely as possible.

Full details and updates on the project will be published via the North East Lincolnshire Council website (www.nelincs.gov.uk).
