BRINGING North East Lincolnshire’s past to life will take centre stage at a series of special events to mark National Heritage Open Days.
Activities and exhibitions will take place across the borough from Friday, September 9 right up until Friday September 23 – an extension of the national event calendar, which officially ends on September 18.
Established in 1994, Heritage Open Days in England form part of European Heritage Days and has grown into the nation’s largest festival of history and culture.
Thanking all those who are making the events happen locally, North East Lincolnshire’s Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and the Visitor Economy, Cllr Tom Furneaux said: “The heritage of our area is what makes it special. Our history provides the foundations from which generations have lived and worked and it is how we have grown as a borough. As we look at the future and the opportunities ahead, it is important we remember and celebrate what got us here and I thank everyone who is working hard to ensure such a variety of events happen during September.”

Cleethorpes On the Move Exhibition: Cleethorpes Town Hall, Knoll Street, Cleethorpes. Friday 9 and Saturday September 10, 10am to 4pm.
Marvellous Machinery – A Windmill in Action: Waltham Windmill, Brigsley Road, Waltham. Saturday September 10, 10am to 4pm
Weelsby Hall Open Day: Weelsby Hall (main picture), Weelsby Road, Grimsby. Saturday September 10, 12 noon to 3pm. (bookable only).
Discover Immingham at Immingham Museum: Immingham Museum, Civic Centre, Pelham Road, Immingham. Open 1pm to 4pm, Saturday September 10. (Also open to the public on Saturday 17 September).
Discover Tin Town – the home of those who built Immingham Dock: 359 Pelham Road, Immingham Saturday and Sunday, September 10 & 11, 12 noon to 4pm. (Also open to the public on Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 September).
Talk, Grimsby’s Fishing Heritage Centre, the Ross Tiger, and the history of Trawling with Dave Ornsby: Grimsby Town Hall, Thursday September 15, 7.30pm.
Talk, Humberston Fitties & the Plotlands Movement: A talk by Tim Daly, University of Chester Lacuna, Kingsway, Cleethorpes. Thursday September 15, 6pm.
Delve into the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre: Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, Saturday September 17, 10am to 4pm. 20% discount on this day.

Cleethorpes and the Growth of the Tourism Industry: Old Clee Church Hall, Saturday September 17, 10am to 1pm (church closed at 1pm).
Discover St Nicolas Church – rooted in its landscape for more than 800 years: St Nicolas Church, Great Coates Road, Great Coates. Saturday 17 September, 10am to 4pm.
Grim Falfest – The Vikings are coming to Grimsby: Various locations across Grimsby Town Centre. Friday 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday September 25.
Let’s commemorate Cleethorpes Charter Day. Friday September 23. People are invited to gather outside St Peter’s Church at 2pm for a short service of commemoration and the raising of the Cleethorpes Borough flag.
