Hunt is on for a poet or creative writer to help with Pier Gardens commission

3:33 pm, Wednesday, 10th June 2026 - 42 minutes ago

General

We are seeking a poet, creative writer, or spoken word artist to collaborate with North East Lincolnshire Council (NELC) in co-creating a short poem for Pier Gardens.

Within Pier Gardens, there will be a letter trail, spelling out the word CLEETHORPES, and this poem will be featured on the ‘P’ bench, an element of the Public Realm Trail.

This interactive trail encourages exploration through the park, with each letter serving as seating, play elements, wayfinding, and interpretation points. It aims to encourage exploration through the park, connecting visitors to Cleethorpes’ landscape, ecology, and heritage.

Focus: Letter P
The ‘P’ bench is designed to mimic the Cleethorpes coastline. It will function as a large wayfinding structure, highlighting landmarks and points of interest to inspire visitors to explore—or ‘Promenade’—to other areas of the resort.

The arch of the ‘P’ will serve as the canvas for a short poem or phrase that captures the essence of what it means to local residents to be by the sea in Cleethorpes.

Once appointed, the creative individual will lead some sessions during July and August with the local community to help inspire and shape their work. The outcome will be a short poem or piece of written work that will then be installed within the structure.

If you’re interested in this work, there’s more information on Create North East Lincolnshire’s website: https://createnortheastlincolnshire.co.uk and look in the News section.

Deadline for submissions: Monday 22 June at 4pm.

Decisions will be made w/c 6th July and applicants notified of the outcome with the successful artist/creative advised on next steps for delivery.

This call out is part of the Cleethorpes Masterplan which is part of a project funded by UK Government. For more information about the Pier Gardens project, visit www.nelincs.gov.uk/pier-gardens.
