TWO public servants with more than 60 years spent working for the local authority brushed shoulders with Their Royal Highnesses The King and Queen.

Youth worker, Sue Campbell, and Health Visitor, Janet Burrows, visited St James Palace last week as guests at a Royal Reception for Local Authority employees.

Each Council got the opportunity to nominate staff to attend, and Sue and Janet were both nominated by North East Lincolnshire Council.

The pair made the trip to London on Tuesday 2 February, joining 350-guests from local authorities across Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The King, Queen Camilla and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, heard from guests about their contributions to communities up and down the country, thanking them for their work.

Janet, who has worked for North East Lincolnshire Council since 2006, has spent most of her time as a Health Visitor, and now leads the Public Health Nursing service, supporting children and young people with all aspects of their health and development.

She said: “It was an absolute honour and privilege to be nominated to attend the reception and meet their Royal Highnesses and talk about the vital work we do.

“It was great to meet other likeminded people in such a beautiful venue. It has definitely been a career highlight for me.”

Sue works in the Council’s Youth Provision, Young & Safe, and has spent 40 years working on the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at the local authority.

Sue said: “It was wonderful to be able to go to the Palace and meet so many wonderful people who have done lots for their areas. I loved every minute of it.

“Meeting the King and Queen was fantastic. I chatted about the DofE Award Scheme and how we deliver it here in North East Lincolnshire. I even showed the Duchess my Duke of Edinburgh Award logo tattoo and she said she’d tell her husband about it!”

Councillor Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council, said:

“Events like these are important because they are an opportunity for people who work incredibly hard on behalf of our borough, and other parts of the country, to receive some recognition for their years of work and service.

“Janet and Sue have clearly put a lot into the Council’s work, in particular supporting children and young people as they grow and develop and start thinking about their futures.

“I’m really pleased that Janet and Sue were able to represent our area at the Palace.”
