Two of the boroughs most prominent landmarks have been flooded with yellow light this week to put a spotlight on the amazing Kinship Carers in our area.
From 7th – 13th October both Ross Castle and Grimsby Minster will be awash with yellow to raise awareness and to celebrate the incredible role that kinship carers play in children’s lives and society. Kinship carers are family or friends who step up, often during an unexpected crisis, to care for a child when their parents aren’t able to.
This year the Kinship Charity have decided on the theme #ThisIsKinshipCare. In a bid to help those who maybe don’t understand what the role of a kinship carer is, and to also highlight the incredible role the carers have in the lives of the children in their care. North East Lincolnshire Council will be sharing stories from local Kinship Carers across social media channels and the Oaklands, who are part of the Fostering Friendly Business initiative, hosted a coffee morning.
Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education says ‘Kinship Carers can sometimes go under the radar, but this week is all about them. It’s important to shout about the incredible people in our borough that have gone above and beyond and stepped up when asked for a child in their family or close circle. It’s wonderful to see Ross Castle and The Minster shining brightly in Kinship Carer colours this week.’
‘We want local carers in the borough to feel appreciated and to have their own space to speak freely about their role as a Kinship carer.’
