Family members and friends who have stepped up to raise a child are being invited to a free support event in Grimsby next month.
The Kinship Roadshow Grimsby, organised by charity Kinship, will take place on Thursday 19 November from 9.30am to 2.30pm at McMenemy’s Function Suite, Grimsby Town Football Club, offering kinship carers the opportunity to connect with others, access practical advice and learn more about the support available to them.
The event is open to anyone raising a child who is a relative or close family friend, often known as a kinship carer. Attendees will have the chance to meet other kinship carers, take part in practical workshops and visit a BookTrust stall where free books will be available to take home.
Representatives from local services will also be on hand to provide advice and information, including details about the Kinship Pilot programme, which provides a guaranteed financial allowance for eligible kinship carers, and Kinship Reach, which offers access to dedicated family worker support through phone and video calls.
Kinship carers can also find out more about wider support available through Kinship, including peer support groups, workshops, online resources and specialist advice services.
A spokesperson said: “Kinship carers play a vital role in providing stability, love and support for children when families face difficult circumstances. This roadshow is a chance for carers to come together, share experiences, find practical help and discover the range of support available to them.”
Places at the event are free, but booking is recommended.
