Leisure Place Partnerships

Small changes, to make a big impact.

Physical activity boosts your mood and health. Even small changes in your routine can improve brain function, reduce loneliness, lower disease risk, and help you feel more focused and fulfilled. That’s why we’re working with local partners to help residents move more and feel better physically and mentally.

About Place Partnerships

Sport England logo

North East Lincolnshire is only one of 80 places across England chosen to be a part of Sport England’s Place Expansion.

Community organisations lead physical activity initiatives to meet the needs of their area, so through continual engagement with a host of partners, it will enable us to form a place partnership alliance.

Our collective goal: Increase physical activity and decrease physical inactivity in NEL!

The work has already begun!

We are committed to increasing physical activity however realise we are at the beginning of making institutional change throughout the borough.

Place Expansion will give organisations a platform to make change, by working with our VCSE sectors, groups and sports clubs local partners to help them become their communities focal point to achieve one overarching outcome – ‘Getting people moving’.

  • Identify open spaces, facilities, and organisations already working within the 6 wards that residents can use to become more physically active.
  • Running the Test & Learn awards will allow us to learn what initiatives work in each ward and what type of programmes residents want to see in their area.
  • Data and Insight learned from this ‘Development stage’ will then be used in a full application submitted to Sport England (2026), which will help us make long term changes to physical activity across our place.

  • Carry out consultation and engagement within targeted wards.
  • Ensure the idea supports the ongoing work of the place-based partnership.
  • Get support to cover basic delivery costs.
  • Run your activity and capture simple feedback and learning.
  • Share your reflections of the programme with us afterwards.
