Cleethorpes

Nearly 20 devices used to help make the coastline safer have been installed in Cleethorpes.

Known as throw lines, these are lengths of rope with a bag on the end that can be used to help people who become stuck in the water.

18 new boxes have now been added up and down the seaside resort from the North Promenade all the way along to The Fitties.

Should you ever need to use one, remember:

  • Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard first
  • Open the box and take the throw bag
  • Throw the line past the person in the water
  • Tell them to hold the rope
  • Pull them steadily to safety

It’s important you don’t enter the water yourself, regardless of the situation.

Unfortunately, these items are occasionally removed from the cases without being used for their intended purpose which can potentially prevent someone’s life from being saved – two were removed from their boxes the night after being installed. Should you wish to report them as missing or damaged, please call Beach Safety on 01472 323173.

“It’s important that we have these life saving devices readily available up and down the resort,” said Councillor Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero.

“Our coastline can be unpredictable and it’s essential that we have the right equipment in place to make sure anyone can help in an emergency. I urge people to make sure these are kept ready for emergencies by reporting any that are damaged or missing.”
