Love is in the air as Valentine’s Day comes to the tip

A loving chef, lovebug and numerous red hearts can be seen around Grimsby Community Recycling Centre as they get in the mood for Valentine’s Day.

The tip is well known for celebrating various occasions, whether that’s Easter, Christmas or anything in between, the staff are always going and above and beyond to make everyone’s visit one to remember and to raise money for local charities.

To help celebrate the love this Valentine’s, the team have come up with a number of ingenious ideas to get everyone in the mood.

Decorations include a chef waving a flag covered in hearts wishing everyone  a Happy Valentine’s Day; a creature made out of red tyres and a traffic cone decorated as cupid. On top of this, the team will be handing out chocolates to anyone visiting on the day.

Grimsby and Immingham CRCs are open from 8am-6pm everyday except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day. Both sites are run by North East Lincolnshire Council’s waste management contractor Newlincs Development Ltd.

Grimsby Community Recycling Centre is situated on Estuary Way, Pyewipe Industrial Estate, Grimsby, DN31 2UD and Immingham Community Recycling Centre can be found at Queens Road, Immingham, DN40 1QN.

However, despite the relocation of the Gilbey Road depot in Grimsby adjacent to the tip, the Community Recycling Centre will remain open and is not affected by the change.

Matty Harlow, part of the team at Grimsby tip said: “I love creating the decorations and we’ve got no plan on stopping anything yet, it just keeps getting better and better.”

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport at the Council, added: “The award-winning staff at Grimsby and Immingham tips do a brilliant job and always raise a smile when there’s something to celebrate.

“Anyone who has visited Grimsby and Immingham tip will see the lengths they go to to make the site a fun place to recycle things you don’t need.

“There are also plenty of bargains on offer with their bike and bric-a-brac sales, with all the proceeds going to good causes.”
