Significant road improvement and resurfacing works have been successfully completed on two major routes in North East Lincolnshire ahead of the winter months.

The schemes on the A18 Barton Street and the A1173 between King’s Road roundabout and Kiln Lane roundabout in Immingham were both delivered on time, helping to reduce the risk of potholes developing during winter and improve driving conditions for road users.

The A18 improvement programme, included extensive resurfacing works between Barnoldby Le Beck roundabout and Ashby Hill roundabout. Alongside the resurfacing, a range of essential maintenance activities were carried out, including localised road repairs, drainage maintenance and cleaning, vegetation clearance, and road sign cleaning. This programme completed ahead of schedule, enabling the road to be opened to traffic a day early.

The A1173 improvement scheme in Immingham included significant repairs and maintenance to North Beck Bridge, which carries the A1173 over North Beck Drain, as well as resurfacing and wider highway improvements along the route. Works on the bridge included localised repairs to the bridge deck, re-waterproofing of the structure, reconstruction of the bridge footpath, repairs to damaged parapets (safety barriers), and the replacement of bridge expansion joints.

The wider scheme also delivered road resurfacing between King’s Road roundabout and Kiln Lane roundabout, including across the bridge, drainage repairs and maintenance, kerb replacements, new road markings and road studs, and vegetation clearance.

This section of the A18 had a high number of potholes reported and fixed over the last 12 months, these improvements will help prevent this happening again in the near future and extend the lifespan of both routes, and provide safer, smoother journeys for motorists for years to come.
