One young boy from Grimsby is making a difference whilst raising funds for a local charity.
Arthur Gibbons, 7, has been on a mission during the Summer holidays to clean up the streets as much as possible to help fundraise Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue.
He has always hated litter since the age of three according to mum Jodie, often commenting on rubbish being left on the ground. Now, he’s taking a proactive approach by going round town with HiVis and litter picker in hand, provided by local litter picking group CleanerWalks.
The conversation first began at school, where Arthur had been learning about money and what happens with it, before discussing it with mum Jodie on the walk home. After a chat, the Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue ambulance drove by, sparking Arthur’s idea of raising money.
Originally his aim was to raise £50, but since his efforts began, he has now raised £413. For Jodie, the best part has been Arthur’s desire to make a difference.
She said: “He’s always cared about the environment. He just wants to get rid of as much litter as he can from around the area.
“I’m super proud to see him doing something he loves and carrying on with this passion that he’s got.
“I hope at the end of it all that he’s proud of what he’s done and had loads of fun whilst doing it.”
In a recent announcement, Arthur thanked everyone for helping him smash his fundraising target. “Thank you everyone for the donations, it’s really good for Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue. I’m so excited I could flip to the moon!
“I never thought I’d get more than £50.”
Now, to keep the momentum going, he’s holding an action day to get as many people involved as possible.
“Please come along to our group litter pick on the Willows, starting on the grass opposite Wingate Parade, and help protect our environment. It will be on Saturday 22nd August, at 1pm to 3pm.
“It’s up to you if you stay for all of it, or just a little bit. I have also asked my Mummy and Daddy to buy sweets for any children that help. I can’t wait, but I might be a bit nervous on the day.”

Councillor Bob Callison, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Energy Security, said: “What Arthur is doing is brilliant. Not only is he cleaning the area, but he’s also raising money for a local cause all at the same time!
“Let this be a lesson to everyone else to look after the borough and take pride in where you live.”
