As parents across North East Lincolnshire prepare for their children to return to school this September, a series of events to help cut the cost of school uniform purchases have been hailed a success.
The three events held in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham, saw more than a thousand families through the door to pick-up pre-loved uniform.
The final event, held at Grimsby Central Hall on Monday 24 August, attracted more than 200 people according to organisers.
The events are arranged by the School Uniform Network, and are supported by North East Lincolnshire Council. The Council provide funding through the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF) – a three-year UK Government fund.
Speaking at the event, Councillor James Sawkins (pictured above), portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:
“I’m really pleased that we have been able to support events like this one to really support those families who are struggling.
“We know that the cost of school uniforms is a concern for many families, and the School Uniform Network has brought people and donations together to help those in need.
“The Crisis and Resilience Fund is being put to good use in our area, supporting initiatives like this, as well as supporting some of our families who are most in need, with things like food and clothing vouchers, support with white goods, and savings schemes.”
The Crisis and Resilience Fund is a three-year programme funded by the UK Government, enabling local authorities to work with local communities to address and reduce experiences of financial shock for low-income households.
