Statement of community involvement

As the local planning authority for North East Lincolnshire the Council prepares several different types of planning policy documents, including the Local Plan. National guidance, regulations and legislation set out how we undertake this work, and which organisation’s and ‘statutory bodies’ we consult with. However, we are also required to consult with local businesses, organisations, landowners, developers and residents or anyone with an interest in how our area looks in the future.

To help to explain how, when, and why we undertake consultation on local planning policy documents, such as the Local Plan, we prepare a document called the ‘Statement of Community Involvement’.

Our first Statement of Community Involvement was adopted in 2006 and we updated it in 2013. Since then, there have been further changes to the planning system and to ensure the Statement of Community Involvement remains consistent with current national guidance The Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2017) a review was undertaken in 2019. This included a period of public consultation, held early in 2020.

After taking into consideration the comments received the Council’s Cabinet committee at its meeting on 10 June 2020 adopted the revised Statement of Community Involvement 2020 (PDF, 560KB) .

The Statement of Community Involvement for the first time incorporates the ‘North East Lincolnshire Commitment’ which was adopted by the Council and NHS North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) ‘Union Board’, in 2019, as part of the North East Lincolnshire Commitment and Community Engagement Strategy – Talking, Listening and Working Together (PDF, 775KB) .
