Earlier this year, the Council was awarded project development funding to look at exterior improvements to the Former House of Fraser building on Victoria Street.
The funding for this was secured from both The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the UK’s largest grant provider for heritage thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, and Historic England, government’s statutory advisor on the Historic Environment.
The Council bought the former House of Fraser buildings at 9-29 Victoria Street in December 2023, with a view to seeing them fully repaired, and brought back into use as part of wider town centre regeneration.
The long-term goal is to have future occupation by tenants and at the same time, carry out conservation repairs to the historic building.
Proposals for a full set of new building frontages, inspired by evidence from historic photographs and plans, have been created during this initial project development phase and have now been submitted as a planning application. You can view this application online under reference DM/0373/26/FUL.
Additionally, the Council has also put forward a bid for funding to the Heritage Fund to deliver these proposals, subject to planning approval under the title “Window to 1913: Restoring 9-29 Victoria Street, Grimsby”. The outcome of the bid should be known later this year.
