Did you know, there are around 16,000 people vote by post in North East Lincolnshire. It’s one of the easiest ways to have your say in things like local and UK parliamentary elections.
Once you’re registered to vote, you can easily register to vote by post rather than in person on the Government Website: www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote. You’ll need your personal details, your National Insurance number, and an image of your signature on plain white paper.
These details are stored securely, so that at voting time, they can be matched with the information you provide, and your vote can be validated and counted.
Following changes introduced by the Elections Act 2022, postal voters are now required to reapply for their postal vote every three years.
Postal voters who applied for a postal vote on or before 30 January 2024 must renew their postal vote application no later than 31 January 2026.
Lots of people have already done the reapplication, but there are still around 8,000 people who haven’t yet reapplied in North East Lincolnshire.
The electoral services team are sending out letters and emails to these residents who registered to vote on or before 30 January 2024, and who need to re-validate their information this year in order to retail their postal vote.
If you receive a letter or email, it’s important that you follow the instructions make sure you can still vote by post for the next three years. This needs to be done by the deadline of 31 January 2026.
You do not have to wait to receive a re-application reminder to renew your postal vote: you can apply online at any time by visiting www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.
If you don’t revalidate your information, you will stay as a registered voter, but it means that you will only be able to vote in person at future elections until you reapply.
You can find out more, including lots of frequently asked questions on our website.
