A poignant and powerful photographic exhibition, described as the first of its kind, has opened to the public today, celebrating local people who provide love and care for children.
North East Lincolnshire Council’s foster carers are the subject of 13 portraits being showcased from today at Cleethorpes Library.
The exhibition marks the start of Foster Care Fortnight, and will run for the duration of the national UK-wide campaign.
Local photographer and Director of the Grimbarians CIC, Dan Clarke, captured the warmth and compassion of foster carers who were nominated to feature in the project.
Speaking ahead of the opening of the exhibition, Dan said he was delighted with the outcome:
“We’re really proud, as Grimbarians C.I.C., to be part of this project and to work alongside Fostering NEL in bringing it to life. It’s been a privilege to meet the foster carers involved, hear their stories, and capture and celebrate them.
“Projects like this sit right at the heart of what we’re about, celebrating real people, sharing their stories, and helping communities feel seen and connected. We’re looking forward to seeing the exhibition open and these important stories shared more widely.”
North East Lincolnshire Council’s Director of Children’s Services, Ann-Marie Matson, said the exhibition was an opportunity to reflect on the impact of foster carers in our community.
“This is such a powerful exhibition, and it really does celebrate some of the most genuine and loving people in our area.
“They have opened their doors without a second thought, offering a home to children who need it most, and that is incredible.
“This exhibition is an opportunity to reflect on our fantastic foster carers, and the love they give. We have some wonderful foster carers in our area, but we still need more.
“I hope people who visit this exhibition will take the time to consider whether they are able to offer a loving home to a child who needs it.”
The exhibition is free to visit, and will be at Cleethorpes Library until Thursday 14th May before moving to Freshney Place Shopping Centre, running from Monday 18th May to Friday 22nd May.
Cleethorpes Library is open from Monday to Friday, 08:30am to 05:30pm.
