Product Recall Notice – Potential asbestos in sand-based products

We have been notified of a national issue relating to a number of sand-based products (including craft and play items) which may contain small amounts of asbestos.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has identified that some consumer products containing sand may be contaminated, and affected items are being recalled.

If you think you may own a product that may be affected the guidance is;

  • Check your item against the list of affected products via the national recall database
  • If any products are identified, stop using them immediately
  • Keep any items sealed, secure and out of reach of children
  • Follow the specific recall guidance provided by the retailer or manufacturer for return or disposal

While the risk from intact products is considered low, asbestos is a hazardous material, so a precautionary approach is important.
