Pubs across North East Lincolnshire – and the rest of the country – have been given the Government green light to stay open for England’s World Cup clash with Mexico at 1am on Monday morning, with no need for a special licence.
Venues now don’t have to apply to councils for a Temporary Events Notice (TEN), which is normally the case. Instead, they can open until 5am on Monday, 6 July.
Welcoming the move, North East Lincolnshire Council Leader, Cllr Oliver Freeston said he wants everyone to cheer England on, for what is likely to be the toughest game so far.
But, please, if you’re enjoying the match and a pint, then remember others may be getting some much-needed sleep. The Council are also reminding England fans to behave sensibly during this time and respect the people and place around them.
He said: “This is a great way to get more people backing the national team. It’s going to be a hard one, and I’ll certainly be one of those rooting for a win, but let’s try to do it in a way that keeps everyone happy.
“Anyone planning on going to the pubs should remember that the people working are doing their upmost to make it a great night for everyone watching.
“We should show them the same level of respect by, for example, drinking responsibly and making sure all rubbish is placed in a bin and not on the floor.
“Come On England!”
