Know someone who goes that extra mile to help people in the local community? Now’s the time to get them some recognition!

People in North East Lincolnshire are being encouraged to nominate community heroes for a Civic Award.

The awards, which where first introduced 2-years ago, recognise and celebrate prominent people doing good work in North East Lincolnshire.

Speaking at the launch event earlier this year, last year’s winners encouraged people to nominate their friends, neighbours, mentors and community champions for the good work that they might be doing.

Mandy from Friendship at Home, last year’s winners of the Charity of the Year Award, said:

“Last year we were elated to win last year’s Charity of the Year Award and it was absolutely fantastic night. Great to get some recognition for all our wonderful volunteers. It was a great night and an honour.

“It was a great achievement, something we’re all very proud of.

“If you know anybody who can be nominated, it’s definitely worth it.”

Last year, over 200 nominations were received from members of the public, with 21 nominees shortlisted and 7 winners on the night.

The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Ian Lindley, explained that he’s looking forward to seeing the nominations:

“I really enjoy looking through the nominations and hearing about the great work that people and organisations are doing in North East Lincolnshire.

“These awards are about recognising and rewarding those hidden gems, those unsung heroes in our communities, and I’d urge everyone to put a nomination in.

“We all know someone who makes a real difference to the lives of others through sheer kindness. Those are the stories we’re hoping to hear about, so please get nominating!”

This year, there are eight categories and each one has a presenter who will champion their category, these include:

  1. Mayor’s Community Impact Award
  2. Environmental Impact Award
  3. Sporting and Wellness Impact Award
  4. Business in the Community Award
  5. Charity/Volunteer of the Year Award
  6. Inspirational Young Person Award
  7. Good Neighbour Award
  8. Veteran in the Community Award

Nominations are now open for the Civic Awards. Nominations close at 5pm on Wednesday 31st January 2024.

All the nominations will be passed to the Civic Awards Panel, who will meet in February 2024 to select the winner of each category.

Winners will be invited to a special ceremony at Grimsby Town Hall in March 2024 to celebrate their award.

Say thank you to someone who is making a difference by nominating them at www.nelincs.gov.uk/CivicAwards.
