Remembrance Day commemorations taking place across North East Lincolnshire

Several events to mark Remembrance Day will take place across the borough on Sunday 14 November.

Memorials will be held in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, New Waltham, Waltham, Laceby, Healing and Immingham.

Road closures will be in place to ensure the commemorations can go ahead undisturbed.

Diversion routes will be introduced at various locations to allow onward travel.

List of ceremonies across North East Lincolnshire

  • Grimsby Minster, Grimsby – 9.30am

Grimsby Minster hosts the town’s Civic Service of Remembrance, led by the Right Reverend Doctor Nigel Peyton. Members of the Minster Choir will sing So They Gave Their Bodies to the Commonwealth. Attendees are advised to wear masks and maintain social distancing where possible. The service will also be broadcast live on the Minster’s Facebook page.

The service will be followed with a parade from St James’ Church to the Cenotaph at Nun’s Corner which will conclude with a two-minute silence to remember those lost in the two world wars and later conflicts

Road closures will be in place to facilitate the parade on Bethlehem Street, Church Lane, Deansgate, and Bargate. Neighbouring streets may be affected for a short time during the parade, but will be reopened as soon as it is safe.

  • Remembrance Day Service and Parade, Cleethorpes – 10am

A Remembrance Sunday service takes place at St Peter’s Church, led by the Reverend Paul Hunter. A memorial will follow at the Cenotaph outside the church, concluding with a two-minute silence.

The service will be followed by a parade from St Peter’s Church, walking along St Peter’s Avenue, Short Street, Market Street and Alexandra Road before arriving at the Memorial Gate. These roads will be closed for the duration of the parade.

Adjacent streets may be affected for a short period of time during the parade.

  • Remembrance Sunday Service, War Memorial, Pelham Road, Immingham – 10.45am

Immingham Town Council Mayor Kevin Houghton will lead the memorial to honour those who lost their lives in the world wars and subsequent conflicts. A two-minute silence will follow at 11am.

Road closures will be in place on Pelham Road and around the County Hotel to facilitate the service.

  • New Waltham Remembrance at the War Memorial – 10.30am

Songs from New Waltham Academy Choir and a reading from the chair of New Waltham Council, Cllr Dinsdale Shaw are among the highlights. Cllr George Baker will lead the laying of wreaths, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am. A church service will follow, conducted by the Reverend Rachel Fowler (limited spaces).

Road closures will be in place on Peaks Avenue to facilitate the service and traffic on Peaks Lane will be stopped while the silence is being observed from 10:55am-11:05am.

Adjoining streets may be closed while the parade passes but will be reopened as soon as it is safe.

  • Laceby – 10.30am

A memorial parade will begin at 10.30am from the Royal British Legion in Austin Garth to the cemetery, followed by a service. The parade will return along the same route.

Road closures will be in place between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Austin Garth, New Chapel Lane, High Street and Cemetery Lane.

Adjoining streets may be affected for a short time.

  • Healing – 10.30am

Healing Royal British Legion will form a parade at 10.30am, walking from the Legion car park to the War Memorial at the junction of Low Road/The Avenue for a remembrance service. Members will then parade back to the Royal British Legion Club for public refreshments and a buffet.

Road closures will be in place on The Avenue and Low Road to facilitate the parade and service.

Neighbouring streets may be affected during this time.

  • Waltham Remembrance Day Parade – 10.45am

A memorial parade begins at Waltham Royal British Legion at 10.45am, followed by a service at the War Memorial on Cheapside at 11am. The parade then continues to All Saints Church. Due to the pandemic, there are just 15 public tickets available for the remembrance service at All Saints Church at 11.15am. You can request tickets (no more than three per person) by calling (01472) 822 172. Tea and coffee served at Waltham British Legion at 12.15am.

Road closures will be in place in Barnoldby Road, Briglsey Road, Cheapside and Kirkgate to facilitate the parade and service. Adjacent streets could be affected for limited time.
