Road closures to support Remembrance and Armistice Day commemorations

1:21 pm, Wednesday, 4th November 2026 - 1 minute ago

General

Communities will fall silent next week as the nation comes together to mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, honouring all those who have served their country and remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

On Sunday 8 November, parts of North East Lincolnshire will come to a standstill as residents take a moment to remember those who have fallen in conflicts around the world.

Services of Remembrance will take place at Grimsby Minster and St Peter’s Church in Cleethorpes, followed by parades through both towns.

A number of road closures will be in place to ensure the commemorations can go ahead undisturbed.

Diversion routes will be introduced at various locations to allow onward travel.

Grimsby

The Service of Remembrance at Grimsby Minster will begin at 09:30am on Sunday 8 November.

After this, a parade will muster outside Grimsby Minster, marching over Deansgate Bridge and along Bargate towards the Cenotaph opposite Grimsby Institute on Nuns Corner, Grimsby, arriving at approximately 10:40am.

A coach will be available for those who attend the service at the Minster and are unable to walk to Cenotaph.

A short service will take place at the Cenotaph, during which a gun will fire twice to mark the beginning and end of two minutes silence. Wreaths will be laid.

Road closures will be in place along parts of the route from around 8am, with the full route being closed from 10am to facilitate the parade on Bethlehem Street, Church Lane, Deansgate, and Bargate. Neighbouring streets may be affected for a short time during the parade but will be reopened as soon as it is safe.

Cleethorpes

In Cleethorpes, a service will take place at St Peter’s Church, St Peter’s Avenue, from 10am.

A parade will assemble outside the church at 10:45am before a public Service of Remembrance takes place. Wreaths will then be laid.

The service will be followed by a parade from St Peter’s Church at 11.30am, walking along St Peter’s Avenue, Albert Road and Alexandra Road before arriving at the Memorial Gate at approximately 12pm.

Road closures will be in place along parts of the route from around 8am, with the full route being closed from 10am for the duration of the parade. Tow Away will be in operation from 8am to ensure the safety of service participants, any cars towed will be moved to a suitable nearby location. Adjacent streets may be affected for a short period of time during the parade.

Immingham

In Immingham, a parade will assemble at the lorry park on Pelham Road at 10.30am before marching to the Cenotaph on Humberville Road for a Service of Remembrance at 10.45am.

Following the service, the parade will proceed along Pelham Road to the Civic Centre, where refreshments will be available.

Waltham

In Waltham, the Remembrance Service will take place at 11am at the Waltham War Memorial, with two minutes silence being observed.

A parade will form-up at 10:30am in the grounds of the Waltham Royal British Legion.

The parade will march to Waltham Cenotaph for a service and a 2 minute silence, followed by a second parade to Waltham All Saints Church for a church service , then returning to the grounds of the Royal British Legion for 12:10pm.

Road closures are in place, and adjacent streets may be affected for a short period of time during the parade.

Laceby

In Laceby, a parade will assemble from 10am at the Royal British Legion, Austin Garth, before marching to Laceby Church for a service.

Following the service, the parade will reform and make its way to the cemetery, where speeches will be given and wreaths laid.

The parade will then return to the Royal British Legion, Austin Garth, at the conclusion of the commemorations.

Armistice Day ceremony, Cleethorpes

On Wednesday 11 November, a formal Armistice Day ceremony will take place in Cleethorpes.

The ceremony, which has been held for more than a decade, brings together local veterans, members of the public and schools from across the area. Children bring poppies they have made as part of their Remembrance and Armistice Day studies.

Due to the ongoing works in Pier Gardens, which would normally be used for the event, temporary road closures will be introduced to provide a safe and secure area for everyone attending.

Between 10am and 12pm, Alexandra Road will be closed between Knoll Street & High Cliff Road. High Cliff Road will be closed between Alexandra Road and Brighton Street. Sea View Street will be closed between New Road and Alexandra Road including suspension of parking at the plaza area.

Diversions are via Knoll Street, Cambridge Road, St Peters Avenue, High Gate, Thrunscoe Road, Taylors Avenue and Queens Parade.

Roads will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. Stagecoach will be aware and will run a revised route for the 9 and 10 service.
