General

From Cllr Philip Jackson, Leader of North East Lincolnshire Council

First of all, I’d like to say thank you to all of our local, regional and national partners who are working around the clock to get this incident under control. There’s a lot of work being done to understand what happened, and how, and what the impact might be on our local coastline.

As a Port Health Authority, we are liaising with Shipping Agents, charities and agencies to ensure support is provided to crews that shored in Grimsby yesterday during this difficult time.

And as a local authority in the vicinity, we will do what we can to further support the immediate response to the incident, as well as working with others to understand whether there are any longer-term issues as a result.

We are fully involved in the emergency discussions that are ongoing, and we will share further information as it becomes clearer.

You can find more details about this incident from HM Coastguard.
