Mental health matters, today and every day.
World Mental Health Day, taking place annually on 10 October, is a reminder to pause, reflect and reconnect.
Mental health can be affected by many factors, including stress, money worries, relationship problems, and health issues. It’s important to notice signs of mental health struggles, such as ongoing sadness, anxiety, or changes in behaviour.
Support is available if you’re struggling with your mental health.
- Call (01472) 256256 for mental health support 24 hours a day, seven days a week and select option 3.
- Text ORANGE to 85258 to start a text conversation with partners at Shout.
- Walk in (24 hours a day) to Harrison House on Peaks Lane, Grimsby.
Anyone struggling with their mental wellbeing can also reach out for support by visiting Every Mind Matters NHS. The site offers simple and practical ways to ease anxiety, manage stress, lift your mood and sleep better, through proven approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Support with mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as stopping smoking, healthy eating and weight management, is available for free with the council’s wellbeing service by calling (01472) 325500 or by referring yourself here: Wellbeing Service Referral.
You can also speak to your GP or reach out to a trusted friend or family member.
Councillor Stan Shreeve, deputy leader at North East Lincolnshire Council and portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care, said: “Life can be busy, noisy and demanding and sometimes we forget to look after the one person who is always with us – ourselves. Mental wellbeing isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being kind to yourself, especially when things feel tough.”
Five ways to wellbeing:
- Connect: Build relationships with people around you.
- Be Active: Engage in physical activities that you enjoy.
- Take Notice: Be mindful of the present moment and appreciate your surroundings.
- Keep Learning: Try new things and continue to develop your skills.
- Give: Offer your time, words, or presence to others.
We encourage everyone in North East Lincolnshire to:
- Take a deep breath
- Go for a walk
- Talk to someone you trust
- Switch off for a while
- Do something that makes you smile
And remember…
- Be kind to yourself
- Connect with nature
- Try to stay in the present (don’t relive the past or worry about the future).
