Keeping rubbish off the streets of North East Lincolnshire is everyone’s responsibility, but some people go that extra mile.
In Cleethorpes, a young family are showing the world how it’s done with frequent litter picks up and down the sea front. Diego Netherton, 11, Hugo Brown, 4, and Romeo Brown, 3, often spend their time walking along the beach with a litter picker and bin bag in hand.
Mum, Boneata Brown, is very proud of her three sons who are going above and beyond to make their home town a better place. She said: “Diego started it all when he was about six after learning about the environment at school.
“Then he started asking us to take him out so he could help look after the area more. Soon after, the two younger boys took an interesting in what their big brother was doing and joined in.”

She added: “It’s great to see them all pull together in a joint effort. Removing the plastic and other bits of waste is a rewarding feeling – it makes everything better for the people who live here but also the people who visit our town.
“I’ve no doubt the boys will carry on doing what they’re doing and we’ll be going out all the time over Summer to make sure everywhere is as clean and tidy as possible.”
Making the borough a better place is a key priority of the Council – making sure as much waste is disposed of and recycled.
Councillor Henry Hudson, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Net Zero, said: “It’s lovely to see residents and the younger generation doing their bit to keep rubbish off the streets.
“These young boys are a shining example to others – I’m proud to say they are residents of this borough and I’m glad we can give them the recognition they deserve.”
