Traffic and travel advice ahead of Armed Forces weekend

North East Lincolnshire Council is urging people to plan ahead for the Armed Forces Day celebrations this weekend to avoid disappointment.

Road closures will be in place across the weekend, with some areas will be closed from Thursday daytime.

ROAD CLOSURES

Weekend closures:

From 6am Friday 16 June to 11.59pm Sunday 18 June

  • Alexandra Road / High Cliff Road between the junction with Yarra Road and the junction with Humber Street.
  • Seaview Street (including the Plaza car park) between the junction with New Road and the junction with High Cliff Road.
  • Knoll Street between the junction of New Road and the junction with Alexandra Road.
  • Central Prom

From 8am to 11:59pm Friday 16 June, Saturday 17 June and Sunday 18 June

  • Seaview Street between the junction with Cambridge Street and the junction with New Road will be closed. Business deliveries allowed before 8am daily.

Additionally, there are a number of specific day closures to allow for the main event set up and operation.

Friday (16 June)

Station Road (High St – Station car park access) closed from 6am until 8pm

Friday evening for the duration of the Carnival: 4pm to 9pm (Carnival start time 6pm)

There will be temporary closures in place for the duration of the Carnival procession on Friday 16 June. These closures will be lifted as soon as practically possible.

  • Alexandra Road: From the junction of High Street with Station Road to the junction of Alexandra Road and Yarra Road
  • High Cliff Road, Kingsway and Kings Road from the junction of High Cliff Road and Humber Street to the junction of Kings Road and Chichester Road.
  • High Street: From the junction with Cross Street to the junction with Alexandra Road
  • Osborne Street: Full extent will be temporarily closed
  • Dolphin Street: From the junction with Alexandra Rd to the junction with Mill Place
  • Albert Road: Full extent will be temporarily closed

Saturday (17 June)

  • Station Road (High St – Station car park access) closed from 6am until 2pm
  • Saturday afternoon for the duration of the Parade 11am to 3pm (Parade start time 1pm)
  • There will be temporary closures in place for the duration of the Parade procession on Saturday 17 June. These closures will be lifted as soon as practically possible.
  • Station Road and Alexandra Road: from Grant Street Car park entrance to the junction of Alexandra Road and Yarra Road.
  • High Cliff Road, Kingsway and Cromwell Road from the junction of High Cliff Road and Humber Street to the junction of Cromwell Road and Howlett Road.
  • High Street: From the junction with Cross Street to the junction with Alexandra Road
  • Osborne Street: Full extent will be temporarily closed
  • Dolphin Street: From the junction with Alexandra Rd to the junction with Mill Place
  • Albert Road: Full extent will be temporarily closed

ON STREET PARKING BAYS

Parking bays in the following areas will be suspended.

Thursday 15 June (all day, 00.01am to 11.59pm)

The parking bays on Alexandra Road between the Knoll Street Car park entrance and Knoll Street.

Friday 16 June 00.01am to Sunday 18 June 6pm

  • All areas within the closed roads.

Additionally:

  • St Peters Avenue: Albert Road to Cambridge Street
  • St Peters Avenue: Sea View Street to Highgate
  • Poplar Road: Grant Street to Station Road

BUS DIVERSION ROUTES

Stagecoach services that normally travel along Alexandra Road, High Cliff Rd and Kingsway (Services 3,4,5,6,8,9,10) will be diverted through an alternative route, missing out the closed roads listed above. The diversion will be along St Peter’s Avenue, Highgate, Thrunscoe Road and Queen’s Parade.

PUBLIC CAR PARKS

  • Knoll / Civic car park (front – facing Alexandra Road) – will be closed from 6pm on Thursday 15 June to 12 noon Monday 19 June.
  • Knoll / Civic car park (rear – facing Knoll Street) – will be closed from 6pm Thursday 15 June to 11pm on Sunday 18 June
  • Cleethorpes Town Hall car park – will be closed from 6pm Friday 16 June to 6pm Saturday 17 June for weddings.
  • Sea View Street car park (The Plaza) – will be closed from 6pm Thursday 15 June to 11pm Sunday 18 June
  • Grant Street car park – will be closed from 6am until 11:59pm on Friday 16 June but will be open on Saturday and Sunday as normal.
  • Cleethorpes Leisure Centre – will be closed to all users except Lincs Inspire pass holders and Blue Badge holders from Midnight on Wednesday 14 June until 12 Noon on Monday 19 June.
  • Thrunscoe Land (Boating Lake car park) – (Bays to the right of the entrance, towards the light railway) will be closed from 00:01am Thursday 15 June until 12 Noon on Monday 19 June. The remaining bays to the left of the entrance are open as usual.   
  • Central Prom closed all weekend.

All other car parks in the resort will be open as usual.

HGV ACCESS TO NORFOLK LANE

The weight limit on Poplar Road will be temporarily suspended to allow HGV access to businesses on Norfolk Lane.

LOCAL RAIL SERVICE
