Cars have been seized, tickets issued, and warnings given out following a joint operation around Cleethorpes Boating Lake.
North East Lincolnshire Council and Humberside Police have spent the past three months working together in a bid to reduce anti-social drivers around the area as part of Operation Snap.
The area has historically seen large amounts of vehicles causing nuisance with both parties dedicated to reducing the amount of anti-social behaviour.
Utilising the Council’s CCTV system along with Humberside Police traffic teams, the group operation actively seeks to identify vehicles offending through dedicated surveillance and investigation.
Uniformed community and roads policing officers have been patrolling the area whilst CCTV operatives monitored the system, reporting back to those in the area.
Over the past three months, teams have seen a number of positive responses. These include:
- 6 Traffic Offence reports
- 9 Section 59 Police Reform Act warnings
- 1 car seizure under Section 59
- 1 vehicle seizure for no insurance
- 5 fixed penalty tickets issued
A Section 59 Order can be given out by police if they believe a vehicle is being used in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance. This order is used as a warning to the driver and if found to be acting in this way again, will have their vehicle seized.
Speaking about the success, Councillor Ron Shepherd, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: “These are some excellent results.
“We are aware of the ongoing issues that a minority of drivers have caused in this area of Cleethorpes and are dedicated to, along with Humberside Police, tackling the issue.
“The Council operates a very strong zero tolerance policy for law breakers and this is the epitome of that in action. If you’re found to be disrupting the community, however that may be, you will be reprimanded.”
Inspector Pete Musgrave said: “We absolutely will not tolerate anyone who uses a motor vehicle antisocially, putting others at risk and causing a public nuisance.
“This joined up approach has already helped us take action against a number of road users who have committed offences, and we are committed to continuing to work closely with the council to protect our communities.”
