Business and investment

A range of North East Lincolnshire organisations and businesses were flying the flag for the borough at this year’s Lincolnshire Show.

From Orsted championing renewables to Nunny’s Farm exhibiting some of their wonderful animals, there really was plenty to see. Whilst these organisations continue to grow and build, so too does Grimsby.

Regeneration continues in the town centre and these businesses are proud to see the benefits it brings. For Stevensons Furniture of Grimsby Road, any improvement for the area is good news.

The family run business opened in 1979 and has been helping families for decades since. Georgia Redding, of Stevensons, said: “We’re a local family run business and have been going from strength to strength.

“The show has been great for us and we’ve seen loads of old and new faces, we’re pleased to be representing North East Lincolnshire while we’re here too.”

Speaking about improvements around Grimsby, she added: “It’s great to see money being put into places like the Port of Grimsby and the rest of town. Anything that goes towards improving Grimsby is a positive.”

Improvements on the Port have partly come under the emergence of the Humber renewables sector, and the profile that brings to the region, provides an immediate opportunity to deliver wider benefits for our community. The Council has a key role in enabling and delivering this agenda and ensuring those benefits are realised locally.

We’re open for business in North East Lincolnshire. We’ve ambitious plans to make the Humber, and Grimsby in particular, the UK capital of the renewable energy industry and deliver a low carbon economy and community, becoming less reliant on traditional sources of energy.

As part of that, we’re continuing to promote the importance of engaging beyond our boundaries and bringing influence to bear in the interests of promoting investment and confidence in the area.

Also at the show was Neil Campbell and Joanna Holbrook-Morris, of Nunny’s Farm. Displaying a range of animals with a hands on experience, their stall was incredibly popular with visitors to the show.

“We’ve been really busy and it’s been great to offer the hands on experience to people. Everyone seems to have enjoyed what we’re doing and it mirrors what we’re all about.

“We believe this can benefit people’s mental health which is one of our great passions and we want to do as much as we can to help those who may be struggling,” said Neil.

Another passion of the farm is Grimsby. “We’re proud to be from Grimsby,” added Neil.

“We’re thrilled to be representing the area and the response to what we do here has been amazing and hopefully that can bring people into North East Lincolnshire.

Speaking about the continuing improvements in the town centre, fellow owner, Joanna Holbrook-Morris, added: “When we set the farm up, we knew it was for the long term. We’re striving for a better future and it’s great to see what’s happening.

“It’s a real positive that the farm is part of this and we think it’s going to be a bright future for everyone in the area.”

Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Economy, Devolution and Skills, Councillor Philip Jackson, said: “I would like to thank all the organisations that represented our borough at the Lincolnshire Show.

“You’re all helping to put North East Lincolnshire on the map and your support is invaluable.” He added: “We’re on a hugely ambitious journey, with significant investment of public funds across our towns and borough. The Freshney Place leisure scheme is one of the largest schemes this council has ever invested in. We believe this is right for the town.

“Partners such as Onside, who are building a Youth Zone on the Haven, and Keepmoat, who will be building a new housing development on Garth Lane, are also investing in the future of our town centre,” continued Cllr Jackson. “Our Freshney Place regeneration scheme is, in my firm belief, the most important regeneration project we have seen in North East Lincolnshire. It is key to the future of our town centre – underpinning the other regeneration taking place as well as securing the future of Freshney Place and the 1,700 local jobs it supports.”
