North East Lincolnshire Council Ward Elections – 7th May 2026 


The North East Lincolnshire Council Ward Elections are scheduled for Thursday, 7th May 2026. This page provides essential information for candidates, voters, and election agents about the wards up for election, key dates, nomination procedures, voting options, and the count process.

Whether you are considering standing for election or simply wish to participate as a voter, all the details you need for the upcoming local elections can be found here.

Standing for election 

A nomination pack and guidance notes on standing as a ward councillor will be available for you to download.

Alternatively, you can attend a Pre-Nomination Candidate and Agent Briefing on Thursday 19th March 2026 at 5:30pm in the Grimsby Town Hall, where paper copies of the packs will be available.  


Submission of nominations 

The election will begin with the publication of the Notice of Election on Friday, 27th March 2026. Nominations may delivered between the hours of 10am and 4pm on the next working day after the publication after the notification of election, but not later than 4pm on Thursday 9th April 2026. There is no power to accept late nominations.  

Please note that the following papers must be delivered by hand

  • Nomination paper 
  • Home address form 
  • Candidate’s consent to nomination 

The following papers may be delivered by hand or by post: 

  • Certificate of authorisation 
  • Request for a party emblem 
  • Notification of election agent 

If you withdraw a candidacy, written notice of the withdrawal must be delivered to the elections team by 4pm on Thursday, 9th April 2026. The statement of persons nominated will be published no later than Friday, April 10th 2026.  


Count

The verification and count of all ballot papers for North East Lincolnshire will take place on Thursday, 7th May 2026, commencing at 10:00pm, and be held at Grimsby Auditorium, Cromwell Road, Grimsby.  

Entrance to the verification and count of votes is strictly controlled for reasons of security, further details will be provided to Candidates and their Election Agents.  


Absent votes

If you require a postal vote for the election on Thursday 7th May 2026, your application must be received by the elections team no later than 5pm on Tuesday 21st April 2026.  

Please be aware that under changes to legislation all postal votes now expire after a period of up to 3 years and must be renewed. This expiration occurs on the third 31st of January. If your postal vote has expired, a letter has been sent detailing this and making you aware of the requirement to resubmit your application. However, if you are unsure if you currently have an active postal vote or have any concerns about your ability to vote by post on these elections, we encourage you to resubmit your application before the deadline of 5pm on Tuesday 21st April 2026.  

Proxy vote application forms must be received by the elections office no later than 5pm on Tuesday 28th April 2026. Please note that if you currently have a postal vote and would prefer a proxy vote instead, you must cancel your postal vote by 5pm on Tuesday 21st April 2026. Your proxy voter must be on the electoral register, eligible to vote in these elections, and will be required to cat your vote at your normal polling station.  

For electors without photographic ID, applications for Voter Authority Certificates must be received by the elections office no later than 5pm on Tuesday 28th April 2026. Please note that if your application is received after this time, it will not be processed until after the 11th May and as such will not be available for use in these elections. If you have received confirmation for a Voter Authority Certificate before 5pm on Tuesday 28th April, but have not received your certificate by election day, please contact the office on 01472 324161.
