Local Government Boundary Review – North East Lincolnshire
Find out about the North East Lincolnshire Council Boundary Reviews.
What is a boundary review?
A boundary review is conducted by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) and they determine the following:
- total number of councillors to be elected to the council (Council Size);
- number and boundaries of electoral areas (wards/divisions) for the purposes of the election of councillors;
- number of councillors for any electoral area of a local authority; and
- name of any electoral area.
The key aim of the review is to ensure that the ratio of electors to councillors in each electoral ward is, as nearly as possible, the same.
This aim is balanced with the need to reflect local community characteristics and interests and provide for an effective and convenient Local Government.
North East Lincolnshire Council electoral arrangements review
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) is currently undertaking a review of the electoral arrangements for North East Lincolnshire.
Stage One
The first stage of the review focused on the Council size. This stage has been completed and the LGBCE is minded to recommend that the review on the electoral arrangements for North East Lincolnshire Council should be based on 42 Councillors representing 14 wards, with each ward represented by three councillors. The Council’s ‘Council Size Submission’ can be found on this page.
Stage Two
During the second stage of the review the LGBCE carry out an initial consultation by asking local people and organisations to tell them about their communities.
North East Lincolnshire Council will then draft warding patterns, which would later be submitted to Full Council for agreeance of submission to the LGBCE.
