Review of polling districts and polling places 2018/20

The Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 places a duty on North East Lincolnshire Council to carry out a review of its Polling Districts and Polling Places by no later than 31 January 2020.

A review of the Polling Districts and Polling Places used for elections with North East Lincolnshire commenced in April 2019.

Purpose of Review

The purpose of the review was to seek to ensure that:

• all electors in the North East Lincolnshire area which includes the parliamentary constituencies of Greater Grimsby and Cleethorpes have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances
• so far as is reasonable and practicable every polling station for which it is responsible is accessible to electors who are disabled.

Consultation

At the meeting of the Licensing and Community Protection Committee on 20 February 2019, Elected Members agreed to adopt a two-stage consultation process for the review of polling districts and polling places in North East Lincolnshire.

The initial consultation period (which was conducted during April/May 2019 to coincide with the elections on 2 and 23 May 2019) was aimed at seeking views and suggested changes on the current arrangements. These views were subsequently considered and a number of changes to the current polling district and polling place arrangements were suggested and feedback on these proposals were sought during stage two of the consultation process (which was undertaken during July/August 2019).

Changes to Polling Districts and Polling Places

At Council on 19 September 2019, Elected Members agreed a number of changes to polling districts and polling places.  These are set out in the Notice of Conclusion of the Review (PDF, 119KB) .  These changes to the electoral register will be made when the electoral register is re-published (PDF, 104KB)  on 1 February 2020.

The polling arrangements will now be kept under review.  The next full review of Polling Districts and Polling Places will take place between October 2022 and January 2024.
