Enrolled Freemen of Grimsby

Apply to the pastures roll of the Enrolled Freemen of Grimsby

Traditionally, in order to become an Enrolled Freeman you had to

  • be the son of an Enrolled Freeman (at the time of birth)
  • have married the daughter
  • be the widow of an Enrolled Freeman.

Now daughters and women who marry an Enrolled Freeman may also apply to become an Enrolled Freeman.

This same law means it no longer matters whether your parent was an Enrolled Freeman when you were born, although your parent must have been admitted as an Enrolled Freeman. It also no longer matters where you were born. A 7 year indenture (apprenticeship) to an Enrolled Freeman may also qualify for enrolment. In all cases the applicant must reside within the former Borough of Grimsby.
