In any election, your vote is yours and yours alone.
On Thursday 2 May 2024 there will be elections held within North East Lincolnshire for local Councillors and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, both helping to shape future decisions and policies across our region.
Our Councillors are responsible for representing their local area and residents, helping to shape the future of their community by making plans and taking decisions.
The Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner is responsible for holding the police to account and the totality of policing as a whole in the area.
However, make sure the vote you cast is your choice. Voter fraud can take many different forms including:
- Pressuring you into voting a certain way
- Offering you something in exchange for your vote
- Pretending to be you at the polling station
- Completing your postal vote for you
If you are a victim of voter fraud or know someone who is, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.
Beyond election day, staying engaged with council decisions is easier than ever. Meeting agendas, planning applications, and consultation documents are all published online. They compete for attention with everything else on your screen — social media feeds, crypto casino bonus notifications, streaming queues — but a few minutes each month with the council’s planning portal gives you a clearer picture of what your elected representatives are actually doing with the mandate you gave them.
