Vision Express relocates to make way for their major store refit

Vision Express has relocated to a new unit in Freshney Place Shopping Centre, to make way for a major investment and refit of their store. 

The temporary move, takes Vision Express to Friargate opposite Marks & Spencer, where they will continue to offer their services during the refurbishment period. 

The temporary relocation is expected to last a number of weeks while their home, on Newbiggin Walk, near Beaverbrooks, is remodelled. 

Recently Stitch Express, known for its clothing repairs and alterations, also relocated to Baxtergate, next door to The Perfume Shop. It joins a number of other retailers such as Card Factory, Segal’s Jewellers and The Works which have already relocated to new premises to vacate space at the western end of the centre due to development plans.

Amanda Austin, centre director at Freshney Place said: “It’s great news for our customers that Vision Express has been able to relocate so swiftly. They have had almost with no downtime, so customers can continue to benefit from their services whilst they invest in their new state of the art store.

“We’re delighted they have chosen to make this investment. It signals their long-term commitment to Freshney Place and sums up the general mood amongst our tenants as we inch closer and closer to the redevelopment of the centre into a fabulous new leisure scheme.”

Over the next three years Freshney Place will transform to offer a new cinema, market hall, leisure and food offering. With an average of 125,000 visitors each week, it is the largest covered shopping centre in Lincolnshire. The redevelopment scheme follows a successful application to central Government’s Levelling Up Fund by N.E Lincolnshire Council, the owners of Freshney Place Shopping Centre.

Freshney Place is Lincolnshire’s largest coveredshopping centre, constituting approximately 60% of Grimsby town centre’s retail offering. It has 67 occupied units covering both hugely popular high street brands, independent boutiques, several cafés as well as a dedicated soft play.

The shopping centre welcomes an average of 125,000 visitors each week and supports 1,700 full and part time jobs in the area. 

Freshney Place’s western end will undergo significant transformation in the next three years, with support from a £20m LUF Round 2 bid from Central Government, submitted by centre owners North East Lincolnshire Council and awarded in Autumn 2023. A new cinema, market hall and leisure and food venues are being developed.
