Bins, waste and recycling

Everyone takes pride in their town or street, but none more so than one young Grimsby boy.

Logan Wade, 8, has spent the past few weeks cleaning street signs around Laceby Acres – all to help the community.

His passion came about when he saw his parent’s landlord cleaning signs outside their old home. Now, he spends his weekends brightening up the community.

For dad David, it’s great to see his son doing his bit to help the area they live in.

“He saw our former landlord cleaning the signs at the first home he lived in and wanted to give it a go himself.

“A couple of weeks later, he decided he wanted to start cleaning the signs around the area we lived in and it’s carried on from there.”

He added: “We’re used to going along with his ideas so when he said it we just gave it a go and he loved it. That’s him all over though, he just wants to do stuff all the time.

“He’s been like it since he was young – he loves cleaning and hoovers too. He’s often taking vacuums apart and rebuilding them.”

Wanting to show everyone what he’d done, David put Logan’s efforts on a local Facebook group that were thrilled to see a young person doing their bit.

“I’m so proud of what he’s done and I’m really happy to see so many people saying nice things. It’s made him want to keep doing it too, he’s really enjoying himself.

“One of his teachers commented saying how good a job he was doing too – he was especially thrilled about that.”

Logan plans to keep going with his cleaning efforts and Councillor Paul Batson, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Infrastructure and Transport, is grateful for what he’s done. He said: “What Logan is doing is a great help on top of what the Council are also doing to keep the signs clean.

“I want to say a personal thank you to him for looking after his local area – we can all take something away from his actions, always take pride in where you live.”

The Council clean road and street signs throughout the year as part of an ongoing schedule. Those deemed to be illegible or not visible take precedence and are cleaned as soon as possible.

Priority is given to mandatory and warning signs due to health and safety risks. Other informative signs are cleansed during the annual programmes, which the Council are in the process of finalising.
