It’s going to get even easier to try to quit smoking in North East Lincolnshire following the local launch of a digital app, offering residents 24/7 support to kick the habit for good.

A premium version of highly rated app, Smoke Free, is being offered to local people for free for six months, with top level personalised support.

Whether it’s your first time trying to quit, or you’ve tried before, it’s never too late to ditch the cigarettes.

You can access the free app for one-to-one support with expert advisors any day any time, with stop smoking clinics four times a day too.

Benefit from convenient, easy, anonymous access at the touch of a button.

Features to help you stay smoke free include:

  • Tracking of time smoke free, money saved and health improvements made
  • Help with cravings, withdrawal and choosing medication and vapes
  • Tools to increase motivation and reward progress
  • More than 90 badges to be earned

Those using the app can access a free, direct 12-week supply of Nicotine Replacement Therapy and vapes via post right to their door, making it even easier to get the support and resources needed to quit. Please note, the app is for those wishing to quit tobacco, not vapes.

Councillor Stan Shreeve, deputy leader of North East Lincolnshire Council and portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care, said: “Quitting smoking can be one of the hardest challenges a person can face, but with the right tools and support in place, it is absolutely possible.

“As well as the already existing free support from our wellbeing team, the council has teamed up with Smoke Free to give local people even more opportunities to quit.

“Stay on track with your progress, get 24/7 expert advice, find out your financial savings and join smoking clinics. These are just a few of the great features of the app.”

He added: “Following our recent regional campaign, Yes To Quit, that asks ‘what will you miss?’ if you don’t quit smoking, it really is so important people take their lives back and start their journey to becoming smoke free. Don’t miss your daughter’s wedding, the birth of a grandchild, or time spent running around and playing with your little one. Download the app today.”

The popular app, which has had 8 million downloads and 190,000 5 star reviews, is available on both iOS and android and can be downloaded via the app store or by visiting getmesmokefree.com.

You will be invited to enter your details, including your postcode. Once a qualifying North East Lincolnshire postcode is provided, you can create an account and get started.

If you are looking for local, face-to-face support, the council has its very own dedicated wellbeing team who are on hand to offer free advice to people who want to stop smoking.

Call the team on 01472 325500 or visit livewell.nelincs.gov.uk/stop-smoking-support/.

Alternatively, drop-in to a venue near you for a one-to-one chat with a wellbeing worker.
