People in North East Lincolnshire are being given the opportunity to shape a new drug and alcohol strategy to help tackle drug and alcohol across the region.
The push for public engagement is being driven by Public Health officials from North East Lincolnshire Council, with a number of workshops happening this month.
Two sessions will take place during July, offering local people an opportunity to co-design the new drug and alcohol strategy. An initial workshop took place in late-June, giving residents an opportunity to consider how professionals can create a culture of hope, putting the experience of others at the centre of their approach.
The strategy will guide the approach by North East Lincolnshire Council and it’s partners to supporting those in recovery, educating local people, and taking action to reduce harm, crime and anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Stan Shreeve, deputy leader of North East Lincolnshire and portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and adult social care, encouraged residents to take part.
Cllr Shreeve said: “It’s important that, when we’re writing these strategies and setting out our approach to supporting vulnerable people and tackling significant issues like this, that we take on board people’s views and ideas, and learn from their experiences and insights.
“Through these workshops, we hope that residents will come forward and engage with us about our approach to supporting our community when it comes to drugs and alcohol.
“The impact of drugs and alcohol can be significant, touching many lives. They are often the root causes of things like unemployment, illness and anti-social behaviour.
“If we get this right, we have a chance to solve a number of issues, and therefore it’s important that our residents get involved.”
The sessions will take place in July:
Workshop 1: Education & Together – focusing on early intervention, prevention, and supporting future generations.
Date: Thursday 24th July from 09:30am to 12:30pm.
Workshop 2: Action & Support – Reducing harm, crime and anti-social behaviour, and ensuring sustainable support.
Date: Tuesday 29th July from 1:30pm to 4:30pm.
All of the workshops will take place at the Angel, Brigg. Parking is available directly behind the venue, just off Cadney Road, Brigg, DN20 8NU.
