ore mindless vandalism. What’s the point?
That’s what Cabinet member for tourism, Cllr Hayden Dawkins, said about vandalism at the temporary toilets on Dolphin Gardens in Cleethorpes earlier this month.
Over the weekend of Saturday 9 August, a group was seen to break into the compound at around 3am on Saturday night / Sunday morning, and continue to knock over a toilet, displacing all the contents, rip out four sinks, and do more damage to several other units.
This is the third incident that we have had at the Dolphin Gardens temporary toilet provision this year.
Once their work was done, the individuals left the compound on bikes and headed in the direction of St Peter’s Avenue in the resort.
“This is absolutely mindless vandalism. The cost to repair and replace these will be upwards of £3000.
“What have people got to gain by vandalising toilets? This has been reported to the police and we have been working with the temporary toilet providers to get the site cleared up and facilities restored.
“However, with the cost of the repairs, to keep doing this will become unsustainable if we’re not careful. It doesn’t just affect the council, the local toilet provider has to source new equipment, and that’s not fair on them either.
“If anyone knows anything about the incident, please call the police on 101, referencing crime number 25000113406.”
