This week council representatives were given a glimpse into the exciting progress of one of two new schools due to open this September in Grimsby.

The school off Matthew Telford Park in Scartho, which will be operated by the Lincolnshire Gateway Trust (LGAT), is on track for completion, with handover of the building set to happen in time for the new academic year.

The visit by councillors and senior leaders from North East Lincolnshire Council followed a special tour in July by some of the children who will be attending the school and their parents.

One of the standout features revealed during the latest visit was the installation of high-quality playground equipment, designed to promote outdoor learning. These facilities will serve both the main school and the Resource Specialist Provision (RSP), ensuring inclusive and engaging spaces for all pupils.

Councillor Margaret Cracknell, Portfolio Holder for Children and Education, said of the progress:

“Just last September we broke ground here, and now to stand inside what will soon be a busy classroom filled with eager young learners is really special.

“Children have been at the heart of every decision, from the layout of the building to the outdoor play areas and seeing it all come to life is wonderful.”

Work continues at the sister site in Waltham which will also welcome children from September.

LGAT’s Chief Executive Officer Martin Brown said everyone was looking forward to welcoming the children at both sites.

“A huge amount of effort is being put in ahead of both academies opening on 8th September,” Mr Brown said.

“We are working closely with our partners at the council and the contractors to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.

“The children at both academies will have outstanding resources and an exciting, engaging curriculum taught by a first class teaching team.”
