Is your bike safe and ready to use this winter?

North East Lincolnshire Council have teamed up with R-Evolution to host a series of Doctor Bike workshops to ensure your bikes are in safe working condition.

The events kicked off back in May and will conclude in October. The sessions are taking place across several venues in the borough to help residents get their bikes out of the garage and back on the road.

The Doctor Bike team will be attending each event to carry out free bike safety checks and give out free bike lights. Their team of trained cycle mechanics will be able to fix most minor repairs for free, whilst you wait or give you advice about how to go about getting more serious problems fixed. So, whether it’s a squeaky brake or a slow puncture that is slowing you down pop along and see the team.

The next sessions are listed below:

  • Grant Thorold Park – Monday 13 October – 2pm to 5.30pm
  • Toll Bar Car Park – Tuesday 14 October – 2pm – 5.30pm
  • Duke of York Gardens – Wednesday 15 October – 3pm to 5.30pm
  • Grimsby Leisure Centre – Thursday 16 October – 3pm to 5.30pm
  • Immingham Civic Centre – Friday 17 October – 2pm to 6pm

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Portfolio Holder for housing, infrastructure and Transport, said: “The sessions held so far this year have been very successful, with a large amount of safety checks and repairs being carried out, helping to keep cyclists safe and their bikes roadworthy.

As we head into the darker months, it’s vital that everyone using a bike has access to adequate lighting. By giving away free lights at these sessions, we hope to encourage safer cycling and ensure riders are visible to other road users. Supporting cyclists with these practical measures is part of our commitment to promoting active travel and keeping our roads safe throughout the winter.”

To take part, please book a free ticket online at North East Lincolnshire Council & R-evolution Events and Tickets | Eventbrite. Although you can drop by without booking, priority will be given to those who attend with a pre-booked ticket.

Participants can book tickets for up to three bikes, but each bike must have its own ticket. There will be a 30-minute time slot printed on each ticket, please try and be there within that period to help keep any queues to a minimum.

The Doctor Bike events are regularly sold out so please cancel your ticket if for any reason you are no longer able to attend the event. That way, your space can be given to someone else.
