Are you interested in Cleethorpes’ heritage? – Cleethorpes Heritage Revealed Information event

Are you interested in the history of Cleethorpes and learning about a new development phase project?  

If so, there’s an opportunity to find out more about the new programme at a public drop in event which on Tuesday 24 February, from 3pm to 6.30pm at Cleethorpes Town Hall. 

At the event you can meet the team who can explain the new programme, and you can provide your views and learn more about how to get involved either as a volunteer or as the owner of a property in Cleethorpes town centre. 

In late 2025, the Council secured a £236,000 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to build on the successful Townscape Heritage Project which is part of the Heritage Place initiative to boost pride and connection across North East Lincolnshire. 

The Council is working with Donald Insall Associates (DIA), who are heritage building consultants and surveyors, to establish an evidence base which will identify options to conserve and enhance historic retail-led buildings centred within the Cleethorpes Central Seafront Conservation Area.  

Cllr Philip Jackson, Leader of the Council, said: “Thanks to both The National Lottery Heritage Fund with their Heritage Places initiative, and to building owners, the first round of works has seen some significant regeneration of buildings in the resort.  

“We are keen to learn more to help us develop new proposals for the next few years so we are looking for freeholders and leaseholders, particularly of retail-led properties to come forward so we can engage with interested freeholders and leaseholders of grant eligible properties. 

“We need to gather expressions of interest so we can develop a further bid for funding to deliver the project in the future.” 

As part of the project, DIA have been commissioned to undertake visual external building surveys of properties within the conservation area, to provide a priority grading of potential properties eligible for grant. They will also be working on revisions to the 2016 Cleethorpes Central Seafront Conservation Area Assessment, as there is a statutory requirement to update this document after 10 years.
