Jobs, training and volunteering

Local people are invited to discover career opportunities in one of the region’s fastest-growing industries through free workshops.

Delivered by qualified careers advisers, the sessions will help residents understand what working in clean energy could look like for them, while also offering practical support with CV writing, job applications and interview skills.

Clean energy jobs help make and use energy in ways that cut pollution and protect the environment. These jobs can be hands-on, like fitting solar panels, fixing wind turbines, building, or welding. They can also be more office-based, including planning, HR pr project management.

The workshops are open to everyone – whether you are currently looking for work, thinking about a career change, wanting to upskill, or already employed and interested in new opportunities.

The sessions are taking place on:

  • Wednesday 17 June, 3pm to 4.30pm, at the Careers Café in Freshney Place (next to Trespass)
  • Thursday 18 June, 1pm to 2.30pm, at Grimsby Jobcentre
  • Friday 19 June, online webinar, 2pm to 3pm

Visit adult education and learning to book your free place.

The workshops are being hosted by the Council’s Adult Careers Service in partnership with Grimsby JobCentre Plus.

The Humber’s energy sector is expected to create significant new opportunities over the coming years, with industry research suggesting more than 32,000 jobs in green energy, decarbonisation and hydrogen could be created by 2040.

By helping local people build the right skills now, these events hope to ensure residents can benefit from those opportunities in the future, while helping local businesses access a skilled local workforce.

For those unable to attend the workshops, the Careers Café remains open throughout the week, offering careers advice, training opportunities, wellbeing support and confidence-building sessions.

Residents can also access support with practical skills including CV writing, digital skills and job applications, alongside guidance for people facing wider barriers such as childcare, low confidence or changing career paths.

The Careers Café was created through a partnership between Taking Action Raising Grimsby’s Emerging Talents (TARGET NEL CIC) and North East Lincolnshire Council’s Adult Careers Team, bringing support services into the heart of the town centre.

These events are supported by £3 million of funding through the Regional Skills Pilot Scheme, backed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
